I just finished editing content for our 1/2016 edition. While I was working on final copy, this song kept playing at the back of my mind like a sad refrain…I have yet to come up with the title of our cover story. However, I think this is our theme song for this edition. Its’ so sad.

And yes, I have now great respect for people in the government who manage to get anything done – push the paper all the way through to build roads, schools, hospitals - the works. It takes hundreds of engineers to change a single light bulb in this joint. People who can do all that are my heroes. I salute you. You must be relentless, tireless and have a lot of tolerance for putting up with loads of BS and still plowing through all that nonsense to come on the other side.

Cuts are about people’s shapes anyway. ‘One cut fits’ all can never be an enduring formula. Brands and retailers that cater to different shapes, cuts, washes and maximum range of sizes endure. The rest get left behind.

We started with more expensive brands first. An average sweater from imported brand retailers will cost more than PKR 6-7K on an average. A really good sweater might cost even more. (HKB used to be a good resource of imported, fake branded designer sweaters but for the past few years, they have gone to the dogs as well).

Overall I love the store and I think this particular ‘Bareeze’ brand is promising addition to our local repertoire – in fact, it’s the first local ready to wear brand that I really think is interesting, slightly edgy and wearable, not to mention, “Made in Pakistan” for Pakistan by Pakistan and of Pakistan. (No, I have not been paid to write this review).

Most of these fabric yardages do not endure beyond one summer – they wear out too quickly – they might not even last ten washes. This is why a ready to wear trouser or top or woven button down shirt from an international brand feels like a bargain now. The other day, a senior colleague purchased a very nice embellished woven top from Mango for about PKR 3000 at full price while we were browsing the malls - I told her to go for it as the price seemed reasonable to me. Mango is a high street brand in UK – know what I mean?
