Life and dead end jobs

Happy people cope better with boring, demeaning or stultifying jobs. They make even boring jobs look interesting. They have fun. They learn. They develop their mind and their skills. They also find the nearest exit as soon as possible. Unhappy people get stuck in a rut and switch off. They might go through the motions and turn in acceptable degree of work but the essential spark is missing. They never excel. They can never escape. They are stuck like a needle in a groove. Not going backwards, forwards or sideways. By Fareeha Qayoom

Criticism – a subtle form of abuse

People who like to criticize you tell you, it’s for your own good. You should be able to take a little constructive criticism. That’s how you grow. The funny thing is, the so-called advice never empowers you – it diminishes you. The criticism in any case is supposed to put you in your place, whatever, that is, in the abusers mind. It’s never about you, it’s about them. By Fareeha Qayoom

I can get no satisfaction!

At all costs, protect your brain from atrophying or getting stuck in a rut. By the way, boring jobs sap your creativity and mentally fatigue you. You become depressed without knowing it and nothing seems interesting anymore. You stop taking interest in your hobbies, your family and friends or even in normal every day activities…at the end of the day, everything becomes a major effort. When you get home, you just want to flop down somewhere and not move if you can help it. You might also become irritable, pick fights with little or no provocation and usually snap at family and friends and are generally lethargic at weekends. Bottom line, boring job is detrimental to your mental health. Change it as soon as possible. By Fareeha Qayoom

Pakistan: Why most start-up’s fail?

Failing organizations have one thing in common without fail, they lack ethics – (in other words, when it’s a question of ‘money vs. doing the right thing’, they always pick the money!). They also practice a lot of deceit across the board. By Fareeha Qayoom

Jazz up your bookshelf

Bookshelves add character to a room, particularly if they actually contain books rather than your best china. The most appealing bookcases feature an eye-catching mix of books and other decorative items. So, take out a day for the long-forgotten bookshelves and jazz them up according to your living style. Incorporate your bookshelf into the decorating scheme of your room and remove the eyesore of cluttered books By Aarzoo Naeem Chaudhry

Wikileaks: Loose lips sink ships

I think, the series of leaks have been nothing but calculated move on USA’s part on the global chess board; (or board-game of ‘risk’) nothing new ever breaks out - all the old stories that were hashed to death in the media by analysts and investigative reporters and usually termed conspiracy theories by USA officially have come crawling out of the woodwork, yet again…the only twist in the tale this time? We have loads more juicy gossip to laugh over! By Fareeha Qayoom

Sugar crisis? What sugar Crisis?

I was a little surprised – I mean, why protest sugar price hike only? Why not everything else too that’s going wrong in our lives because of current government’s policies? When the prices of all essential commodities (including indispensable foodstuffs, everyday staples, energy, power and fuel) are rising without rhyme or reason, without any notice, just like that, why were the folk out on the streets to protest the prices of sugar?
