Jazz up your bookshelf

Bookshelves add character to a room, particularly if they actually contain books rather than your best china. The most appealing bookcases feature an eye-catching mix of books and other decorative items. So, take out a day for the long-forgotten bookshelves and jazz them up according to your living style. Incorporate your bookshelf into the decorating scheme of your room and remove the eyesore of cluttered books By Aarzoo Naeem Chaudhry

Pakistan: perception vs. reality

If you Google “travel Pakistan,” or “Pakistan travel,” (this is back in December 2009), you get loads of travel warnings and advisories followed by a couple of international travel websites like Lonely Planet and Virtual Tourist that give you a brief insight into Pakistan and then it degenerates from there. There is not one solid website on Pakistan; no, not even the official tourism website done by Pak government. Actually, what you notice is the lack of any real information on Pakistan, and what stuff there is mostly all negative. By Fareeha Qayoom

Billboards: the Depiction of Women in Pakistan

Billboards are just necessary urban cityscape wall paper to me – I hardly notice them. Then, one day, Adnan very disgusted with the whole thing commented, “why do these women have to pose lying down?” For a minute, I didn’t get what he was talking about…we were passing through a T-Junction between Cantt, Cavalry Grounds and DHA. There are huge billboards decorating all angles up in the sky. There was one of Iman, lying down in a provocative pose selling Jeans of all things for a denim label called Stone Age. I just laughed.
