I

know June is the month for Men’s Milan and Paris Fashion weeks for Spring/summer every year…and Haute Couture fashion week for Women in Paris…but for some strange reason, I wasn’t really paying attention. (You know crazy Lahore weather and procrastination…Who cares about fashion when you are so hot?)

Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani

Luckily, the fashion week in Milan is still on (June 18-22, 2011)… here are a few highlights:

  • Miuccia Prada – presented a happy go lucky menswear collection inspired by golf courses, and a tongue in cheek  grouping of shirts in cartoon/ floral prints with tailored suits
  • Ferragamo – (Designer: Massimiliano Giornetti) presented a collection inspired by French Riviera, lean, mean, close-fitting suits in creamy colors teamed with raffia panama hats
  • Ermenegildo Zegna – was also apparently inspired by French Riviera. His collection featured crinkled silk jackets in muted bleached colors
  • Roberto Cavalli – again, emphasis on form-fitting, his collection also featured lean, fitted tuxedo jackets with skinny  denim trousers
  • Gucci – (Designer: Frida Giannini) also showed close-fitting jackets in Prince of Wales plaid with untied shirts
  • Bottega Veneta – played with leather and denim combinations
  • Burberry – colors and fabrics were key here
  • Giorgio Armani – set a whole new trend for trousers, with low crotches, darts and diagonal zips for easy movement in ultra-thin fabrics
  • Dolce & Gabbana – their collection featured lightweight net
  • Versace – electric colors, optical prints and gold studs
  • Calvin Klein – emphasis on – wider-legged pant, extra wide and shown a variety of ways, even with a tuxedo. Unique pieces included: leather t-shirts, coated denim jeans and jackets, and perforated leather and three-quarter length pleated shorts

MILAN – Fashion designers at the Milan menswear week opted for untied shirts, raffia hats and crocodile espadrilles for next summer to lighten up the wardrobes of men who dress to impress.

Milan’s holiday-themed collections brought a whiff of fresh air into the fashion industry, which is undergoing an intense round of consolidation and bourse listings.

  2. ‘Keep it cool:’ the Armani message for next spring and summer menswear
By Associated Press, Published: June 21

MILAN — Giorgio Armani’s clothes for next spring and summer are comfortable and relaxed — the kind of clothes the designer himself likes to wear.

The white-haired, fit and permanently tanned Armani is known to shun formal wear, preferring slacks and T-shirts to jackets and ties.

Golf inspired Prada’s offbeat, whimsical men’s wear collection for next spring and summer.

“I was using golf as an excuse to make it eccentric. Even if I hate golf and don’t play, it is completely international,” designer Miuccia Prada said backstage after the preview show Sunday evening.

First stop for the Men’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collections is Milan Fashion Week, June 18-22, 2011. Major labels showing in Milan for SS12 include Zegna, Armani, Burberry Prorsum, D&G, Cavalli, Ferragamo, Prada, Gucci, Canali, Versace, DSquared2, and many others. Over 10,000 fashion players and 450 journalists are expected at the event. Show schedule is current as of today’s date:

Milan Fashion Week has officially kicked off and the first menswear show to hit the runway is Ermenegildo Zegna and the famed label’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The offerings rack up to a large selection of suiting in an array of colors and fabrics. There is some casual wear thrown into the mix but the aesthetics and tailoring are still top notch, as you would expect it to be from one of the finest Italian labels of our times.

  19. Good sports get into a few blues
    June 23, 2011

As the London Olympics draw closer, designers hit the runways of Milan with their athletic efforts, writes Georgina Safe.

Sport and technology were two of three key themes to emerge from Milan men’s fashion week – the third being cold, hard cash.

Both Prada and Ferragamo are going public. Prada shares start to trade tomorrow in Hong Kong, followed by Ferragamo’s in Milan next Wednesday, transforming family companies into global concerns. Luxury outerwear company Moncler, founded in France but now based in Italy, is also selling a 45 per cent stake, worth $US611 million ($577 million), to French investment firm Eurazeo. The international boom in the Italian apparel industry lent a decidedly upbeat air to the four days of runway shows, which ended on Tuesday.
