Weekend retreat: C’est la vie! Recharge your batteries every weekend, get away from it all and entertain in style

By Aarzoo Naeem Chaudhry

ummers are exotic in the Tropics, magical on the Mediterranean and wild fun on the West Coast, USA, but for us here in Lahore summer has a whole new meaning. It can range from being torturous to absolutely frustrating because summers seem to last forever; the days become longer and temperature soars to record-breaking figures.

So, we thought there must be a way to escape the heat and get away from it all. The people we asked had regular answers like going away for a week to the cooler Northern Areas or the regular boring activity of staying indoors. In our search for a better way to chill out other than staying indoors, we found our story in good old farmhouses.

There are a lot of people who prefer making homes out of the hubbub of the city. Organic farming, healthy and green living has become the lifestyle theme across the world. Here’s a look at Farris Sultan’s farmhouse on the Kasur Road which serves as a weekend getaway for his large family. ■
