GI Insurance was initially located on the Mall,” says Faheem Saeed, branch manager of IGI insurance Ltd. “The space was quite cramped as we were sharing the building with another company. When we started looking for space to expand, one of our directors offered us his mother’s place in the Gulberg area. The house was sitting empty,” he recalls.
Located at 5- FCC., Syed Maratib Ali Road, The building is known as ‘Nasheman’ a unique name for an office space and is approximately hundred years old. The façade of IGI Insurance is typical of the buildings during the British Raj –white-washed with pillars before the front door. It is also one of the few offices with a pleasing view of a huge lush green garden facing the entrance. “It was back in 2003 that IGI Insurance shifted from Mall to its current location,” he continues. “The architect and designers modernized the interiors to suit our office needs while restoring and preserving the exterior period architecture. We were not allowed to touch a single inch of the guest house though. It has been preserved in all its original glory. The Swedish Ambassador loves staying over when she is in town,” says Faheem Saeed.
