What the Heck Are They Showing on the Television?

What kind of television are we showing the masses? Are we raising awareness or doing its direct opposite – giving men the license to behave like that on national TV? You decide. I personally do not subscribe to showing such graphic scenes (that involve hitting women) on national TV even if they are a work of fiction. You are just endorsing bad behavior. Please do not tell such stories. Find better subjects where women are respected and empowered. Not diminished and suppressed. I think the policy makers need to take notice. Please do raise your voice if you agree with me. By Fareeha Qayoom

The Tomorrow People – the ‘Us and Them’ Syndrome

Bigotry exists. It’s a fact. There’s no getting away from it. We discriminate, we judge, we evaluate, daily on the basis of ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ which is quite a subjective quality if you think about it – we might not even notice we are doing it. It’s human nature. By Fareeha Qayoom

The Good Fight: Propaganda or just a story?

The average American (including the blogger who wrote the above review!) probably doesn’t even know that Waziristan is actually located in Pakistan and Pakistan is not at war (officially or otherwise) with USA or Afghanistan! By Fareeha Qayoom

Television: Hooray for commercials!

Some commercials are better than programs – for example, Ufone ads. Some make you laugh like Shahid Afridi’s ad for Head and Shoulders shampoo – “mera mind may bahut kuch…except dandruff ki parshani kay” (Translation : I have lots on my mind except worrying about dandruff)– some leave you mystified – like Super biscuits ad.
