Technology: Google Maps

The other day, I was meeting friends at English Tea House for brunch. Since I had never been there before; I looked it up on the Google maps (on my cell phone) – it was there; complete with the address (24 Sir Syed Ahmed Road), with couple of other landmarks located in the vicinity as well. (Although, you do need internet access to run the maps on your cell phone.). By Fareeha Qayoom

Retail Therapy: Winter Sales Blues…

I must say, I appreciate the text alert service that a few of my favorite apparel stores have started a few seasons back. It’s neat. At least the stores maintain a mailing list of their customers and try to stay in touch with them. It’s beside the point that they make no effort to listen to them though! By Fareeha Qayoom

all that you can't leave behind

2013: Happy New Year!

And if the night runs over And if the day won’t last And if our way should falter Along the stony pass It’s just a moment This time will pass Stuck in a moment, from All That You Can't Leave Behind, 2000, U2

Playing Ostrich

In my dream I was drowning my sorrows But my sorrows, they learned to swim Surrounding me, going down on me Spilling over the brim Waves of regret and waves of joy I reached out for the one I tried to destroy You...you said you'd wait 'til the end of the world By Fareeha Qayoom

Procrastination and Writer’s block – My Typical Day

I am suffering from over work. Yes, I think it’s a disease too. You develop a tunnel vision. You become compulsive and obsessive (about your current obsession). Which I am anyway – compulsively obsessive…when you add work to the mix, it becomes something totally beyond normal. All work and no play makes you a dull Jill (or Jack whatever your particular case). By Fareeha Qayoom

New Toys

Anyway, I no longer need to buy loads of books when I can download them on my phone for free and read them whenever and where ever convenient. It’s portable, light-weight, and I can hold it in my hand and can read any time, any place, even in bed. By Fareeha Qayoom

Only in Pakistan

Warning: This is a rant about ‘oh poor me!’ - a self pitying lament about my good life. If you don’t like rants – don’t read any further! :D By Fareeha Qayoom

Time

Time is relative. Unfortunately, it waits for no man (and woman). It relentlessly marches on. Sometimes, it passes in a blur and sometimes, it slows down so much that each second is excruciating. By Fareeha Qayoom

Green Roofs and Indoor Gardens

However in spite of all these frustrations, I am hooked. Gardening is a very rewarding hobby. You can literally see the fruits of your labor right in front of your eyes! ;D By Fareeha Qayoom

Double Standards

The contrast between the ordinary and special is blinding –only in Pakistan. Why can’t all our roads be as green and picturesque as these two??? By Fareeha Qayoom

Denim: Another Fashion Note from the Trenches

Cuts are about people’s shapes anyway. ‘One cut fits’ all can never be an enduring formula. Brands and retailers that cater to different shapes, cuts, washes and maximum range of sizes endure. The rest get left behind. By Fareeha Qayoom

Book Review: AB Lynn’s the EQ Difference

I do know there are many kinds of intelligence around – Howard Gardener listed about seven – for example, Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Spatial, Musical, Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal. Daniel Goleman wrote about another kind called Emotional Intelligence. I do know that you can acquire this one if you naturally do not have it because I read all of his three books on the subject ages ago; (Emotional Intelligence, Destructive Emotions and the New Leaders).
