Nausheen Saeed: “Nowadays Art has only one value – price”

“I enjoy the technique of mold casting. I like to use natural everyday materials – fiber, clay, plaster, fabric, soap, bread. These are all the tangible materials. I have also used non-tangible substance like text and light," says Saeed. By Fareeha Qayoom

Phuket: a great holiday in the sun

“How many times can you go to expensive places for a holiday? We spent four nights and five days in Phuket – it cost us only hundred and fifteen thousand for the tickets and the hotel stay. The food, transport, entertainment and shopping expenses were extra. Holiday in Thailand is economical, you get to visit a foreign place, do a bit of sightseeing, relax on one of the most beautiful white sanded beaches, laze around in your deck chair, take a stroll along the seashore, read a book. If you feel a quick energy burst, you can explore the ocean, go parasailing, or hire a boat and go fishing and snorkeling around the coast. If that sounds too energetic, you can have a pedicure or a massage under the shade of the tree, or just relax and sip your fresh coconut… what else do you need?” says Sadia By Fareeha Qayoom

Ahmed Ali Butt, not your typical actor

"Anybody can be on Television. People who last are true to their art. I have no hang ups working with new people, the more you work, the more you learn. As long as the director knows what he wants from his actors, things work out. There is conflict sometimes if the director doesn’t know what he is doing. However, I am a flexible person and I have learnt to deal with conflict – rule number one - leave your ego at the door” says Butt By Fareeha Qayoom

Golden Lotus: What is wrong with the chef?

One of its latest offerings is Golden Lotus restaurant. I had heard a lot about it but for some weird reason, I didn’t get a chance to dine there until recently. The décor might be interesting; its outdoor patio pleasant in winters and spring. But the food and service leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I have been there twice now in a space of six months By Fareeha Qayoom

Pakistan: perception vs. reality

If you Google “travel Pakistan,” or “Pakistan travel,” (this is back in December 2009), you get loads of travel warnings and advisories followed by a couple of international travel websites like Lonely Planet and Virtual Tourist that give you a brief insight into Pakistan and then it degenerates from there. There is not one solid website on Pakistan; no, not even the official tourism website done by Pak government. Actually, what you notice is the lack of any real information on Pakistan, and what stuff there is mostly all negative. By Fareeha Qayoom
