hows-your-vision

December is the month we take stock and build on the successes and failures of the past. We also create new resolutions. Well, I don’t have any new resolutions. I have only old.

Trend Report: Autumn-Winter 2015

fendi-eyeliner

Androgynous style, gender blur, unisex – in fact, no demarcation between feminine and masculine clothes. “On the street these days, you can’t always tell who’s a guy and who’s a girl,” Ed Burstell, the managing director of Liberty of London was reported as saying by New York Times and “Sexuality is inside. It’s a private thing,” as Alessandro Michele said for Gucci.

Trend Report – Spring Summer 2015

Dolce and Gabbana - SS15 Milan - beauty trends

Clothes are essential, every day and routine, they also serve as tribal markers, as a uniform belonging to a particular group, culture or section of society, to describe a particular period of history, and as a work of art.

Coke Studio: Season 7 – Effortless, Professional and Slick

coke studio - episode 1

Bottom line, Season 7, episode one by Strings is an effortless, professional production that is indeed “Sound of the Nation” reinterpreting the traditional musical instruments of Sitar, Dholak, Flute – bringing together surprise collaborations from guest stars and the house band. I have no faults to find, though, the presentation is pretty low-key because it borrows from our musical roots and traditions, therefore, hardly contains any elements of surprise– very smooth job indeed.

The Empire Strikes Back

brain

Imran Khan and Qadri are not the answer. They are only human and fallible and subject to the same human frailties as the rest of us including stupidity and arrogance. When the dust settles, history will record that they were only rabble rousers.

Denim: Another Fashion Note from the Trenches

madonna-dsquared

Cuts are about people’s shapes anyway. ‘One cut fits’ all can never be an enduring formula. Brands and retailers that cater to different shapes, cuts, washes and maximum range of sizes endure. The rest get left behind.

The Tomorrow People – the ‘Us and Them’ Syndrome

the tomorrow people

Bigotry exists.

It’s a fact. There’s no getting away from it. We discriminate, we judge, we evaluate, daily on the basis of ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ which is quite a subjective quality if you think about it – we might not even notice we are doing it. It’s human nature.

Thank God for Roads!

my daily commute close up

I must commend Mian Shahbaz Sharif for his forethought in bringing a little sanity to the chaos that was our roads before he undertook to create a little efficiency. Sorting out the Kalma Chowk Crossing, Ferozpur Road, Main Canal Bank Road, Peco Road, Khayban-e-Firdosi, Khayban-e-Jinnah, LDA Avenue Crossing, linking Raiwind Road to the main city, constructing bridges and underpasses and traffic lights and re-routing traffic to move more quickly has made life easy for commuters who have to get to point Z from point A. A lot of people live down there now.

Coke Studio: Season 6 —  Same Old, Same Old, Blah, Blah…

coke studio 2

Not that I want to rain on his parade but I think Coke Studio needs fresh new blood.

Its same old, same old; it started with the single “Jogi” and it went downhill fast from there

The Power of Negative Thinking

HBR - images

Focusing on the negative makes people forget all the positive things (in life that make it worth living). Moods are contagious and spreading negativity and ingratitude to your fellow human beings should not be allowed. Unfortunately, it’s prevalent across all walks of life in our society. We are generally ungrateful folk.

Baked Alaska – Home– Made Style

baked alaska at copper kettle

You can create your own version of baked Alaska at home: it doesn’t cost as much as it would in a restaurant, though it can be equally delicious if not more so and best of all, you can serve as many portions as you want.
