es, the world’s fashion capitals are showcasing next year’s spring summer trends on the runways this June… Paris, Milan and now even London – yes, this is the first time London is featuring men’s collections. Yes, I was again caught off-guard. Yes, as usual was super busy and thought had plenty of time to tune in….Woke up on the last day of London Fashion week though all is not lost, it’s just the beginning of trend’s watch…
London Collections: Men’s — Friday June 15th to Sunday June 17th
Men’s collections are showcased twice a year every year in Milan and Paris – January and June without fail. This year, London also adds its two cents worth. This new runway event /fashion week comes immediately before the June’s European collections.
HRH Prince Charles officially launched the first London Fashion week at a reception at St. James Palace. He reportedly told his guests at the reception, “I’m finding it very hard to live with myself, ladies and gentlemen. Because someone suggested that I might be an icon of fashion. After 64 bleeding years, I don’t know why.”
He added: “I have lurched from being the best-dressed man to being the worst dressed man. I don’t know why — presumably it sells publications. Meanwhile I have gone on, like a stopped clock — and my time comes around every 25 years.”

The Spring 2013 Milan Mens’ Shows Kick Off in a Blue Mood
What’s hot for guys to wear in spring 2013? Judging from the Milan menswear shows, it’s variations on all things blue.
1:47 PM PDT 6÷25÷2012 by Merle Ginsberg
It’s only late June, but savvy femmes starting to think about their fall 2012 wardrobes (it’s never too early!) know that one of the big trends in womens’ clothes upcoming is dresses, jackets and suits in all shades of blue: navy, cobalt, sky, ice blue, pale blue, power blue, indigo, etc.

The Fashion Trail | From Pitti to Paris, Men are the New Women
PARIS, France – “Men are the new women,” or so went the refrain of the fashion pack who have travelled from London to Florence to Milan to Paris over the last three weeks, taking in the menswear collections for Spring/Summer 2013.
Indeed, according to a recent report by Bain & Company, a consulting firm, the luxury menswear market is growing at almost 14 percent per year, outpacing growth in womenswear by almost double. And, as male consumers begin to take to style and fashion with the same fervour as their female counterparts, menswear is a growing priority for luxury and fashion brands.

Milan Men’s Fashion Week spring/summer 2013: Day one round-up
From real men at Dolce to sun at Burberry and four minutes spent with actor Stephen Dorff, Luke Leitch got into the swing of the opening of Men’s Fashion Week in Milan.
BY Luke Leitch | 24 June 2012
Dolce Time
Straight from Linate to Dolce & Gabbana (above), which made the radical decision to dump the usual models for an all-Sicilian cast of real men at its show this afternoon.
There were editors in the audience who seem nonplussed — and rather disappointed that there were only three sets of six-packs on show — but I think it worked excellently.

Milan 2013 Men’s Fashion Week: Dolce and Gabbaba Model Earthy Sicilian Men, Burberry Opts for Dazzle
June 24, 2012 10:21 AM GMT
The 2012 Milan Fashion Week brought about quite a few surprises and introduced a few old favourites for men’s 2013 summer collection.
The most exciting show, perhaps, was from Dolce & Gabbana (D&G), who took a leaf from the pages of some women’s ramp shows and used “real men” from different walks of life as models. This meant the Italian design giants called on male models from 12 to 43 years of age — barbers, painters, students… and were rightly proud of their call.

Burberry Prorsum: While there were classically tailored sharp suits and chic sporty bombers, it was the rainbow of metallic silk separates which Christopher Bailey sent out on the runway that made the most lasting impression — whether or not they will actually end up in stores, that’s another story.

Sartorial elegance for Hardy Amies’ debut Paris menswear show
By Thomas Adamson, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS June 27, 2012
PARIS — It was sartorial elegance at Savile Row tailor Hardy Amies’ menswear debut show in Paris, with a pinch of fun for spring-summer 2013.
It was the company’s first show in the French capital but the classic English designer is no newcomer. He has a storied past — from pre-War collaborations with royal photographer Cecil Beaton to being Queen Elizabeth II’s dressmaker until his retirement in 1989. He died in 2003.
Now under the creative direction of Claire Malcolm, the house has not lost the eye on its history.

Dries Van Noten
PARIS, June 28, 2012
By Tim Blanks
Camouflage is a chameleon. It’s supposed to look like anything but itself. In Dries Van Noten’s paean to the pattern tonight, it looked here like a jigsaw, there like a virus under a microscope, everywhere else like plant and animal life. But for Van Noten, what it represented above all was masculinity. And he was so confident of it that his salute to camo’s infinite variety spanned fabrics from butch canvas to girly voile, with a side trip into shantung silk and nylon so fine and shiny it looked and felt like taffeta. There was also lace that, once overdyed, looked surprisingly like — you guessed it — camo.

Dries Van Noten Spring 2013 Menswear Collection
June 28, 2012 by Alexander Patino
Gender roles as a theme has been a major story during the menswear shows for the past week and some change. From the mule stomping, headscarf-wearing boys at J.W. Anderson’s show in London, to Prada’s ‘all things considered equal’ show, both a men and womenswear outing in Milan, to the alchemical melding of sexes at Raf Simons just a day ago, that ubiquitous question of ‘what is masculinity?’ should feel like a bore by now. But when you have Dries Van Noten take a whack at that philosophical puzzle, resistance marches along. He used his greatest powers – his masterful eye for color, the adventurous tailoring, to breath new life into one of masculinity’s most identifiable symbols – camouflage.

Paris fashion week continues trend for men’s statement suit
The corporate look appears to be over as patterns and primary colours dominate the international catwalks
Simon Chilvers
guardian.co.uk, Friday 29 June 2012 18.26 BST
The sober suiting chosen by prime ministers, presidents and bank bosses, such as Barclays’ Bob Diamond, appears to be over. On the international catwalks this week the message for spring/summer 2013 is loud and clear: the statement suit is the new navy.
In Paris on Friday, cult fashion label Balenciaga showed a striking tomato red suit made in a silk cotton worn with white buckle boots. Junya Watanabe’s spring/summernew collection featured pink and bold check suits worn with cropped trousers or shorts.

Giorgio Armani spring 2013 men’s
International fashion and style Giorgio Armani spring 2013 men’s
June 26, 2012
By: Jeffrey Felner
There are few things as gratifying as seeing a collection that excites. Mr. Armani is no stranger to offering up these moments to the fashion flock, whether it is for men or women. Giorgio Armani men’s for Spring 2013 is just a triumph on so many levels.
Mr. Armani has long stuck to his guns and travelled whatever path he desires no matter the trend or the opinions of others and for that alone he is to be commended and respected. Again, some will say there is nothing new this season, which in a way is sort of true, but what Armani manages to do is that he just evolves, tweaks and progresses and never skips a beat.

Those winning Italian ways: men’s fashion week in Milan is light and bright
Creations by Moschino, Canali and Missoni in Milan, Italy
26 June 2012
As the men’s fashion bandwagon prepares to pack up its Church’s brogues and Gucci blazers before heading off to Paris tomorrow, we take a moment to ponder the highlights from menswear week in Milan.
From linen suiting in muted shades to lightweight alpaca sweaters, knitwear label Missoni offered up one of the week’s highlights.
The family run label was joined in creating a memorable spectacle by Moschino which lifted the spirits with a show staged in a makeshift supermarket. The collection which focused around bold-coloured basics and seersucker suiting delighted the English fashion crowd who were perhaps feeling a little down in the mouth following their host’s footballing win in Kiev the night before.
At Canali, tailoring in kaleidoscopic shades was the order of the day. Some suits were trimly fitted and double breasted in form, others came with oversized pin-stripe details.

The best shows from Paris Men Fashion Week
Posted on 8th July 2012 | Paris Men Spring 2013 |
The best French designers have gathered and revealed their menswear for Spring 2013. Though Milan Fashion Week set a very high bar, this Paris Men Fashion Week was a huge success.
Here are 4 shows that left quite an impression of this fashion extravaganza:
Givenchy – Religion at its Best
Givenchy’s Spring 2013 collection was nothing like any other fashion show. Chief designer, Riccardo Tisci, chose to follow his heart and had the courage to reveal religion in a very fashionable way. Almost half of the looks included printed sacred images – haloed churchman, Jesus Christ on a cross and devout saints.

Fashion | Bold colors make splash across the pond

Still judging you

It’s a big year for London. From the upcoming summer Olympics to Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, the Brits have a lot to be excited about, and the excitement hasn’t skipped the fashion world.
This past weekend, English fashion designers presented their spring 2013 collections in the first-ever men’s fashion weekend in London. The event was blandly named London Collections: Men, but despite its lackluster title, many of the weekend’s shows presented a fun, light-hearted approach to menswear.
The British Fashion Council organized the event in response to the growth of the men’s day during London Fashion Week in the past few years. According to the British Fashion Council website, the new showcase emphasized “both the creative and commercial importance of Britain’s brands and emerging talent.”
Christopher Shannon’s collection featured simple street wear with exuberant, colored accents. Panels of striped or embroidered blanket fabric spiced up basic T-shirts, sweatshirts and short-sleeved button-ups. There were a number of garments crafted from hundreds of neckties that were just runway spectacles, but the majority of Shannon’s clothes could easily be translated to the street. The pop-of-color look was prevalent in the collection and will hopefully find its way into more affordable retailers next year.

Sir Paul Smith Reveals The Secrets Of His Success (And A Nice Pair Of Legs)
June 16, 2012 8:43 pm
Paul Smith has at least two things of which he can be very proud. One of them is his legs: “I’ve still got the legs of a teenager,” he boasted yesterday at London’s Princess Anne Theatre, standing up to show them off. The other is the remarkable fact that his company — which continues to grow, despite the tough economy — holds no debt.

It bags and 3-piece suits: first look at Dolce & Gabbana’s debut childrenswear range
Look out for the Dolce & Gabbana mini-me as the Italian fashion label branches out into childrenswear.
BY Olivia Bergin | 19 June 2012
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana may have bid arrivederci to their D&G diffusion line this summer, but the design duo has carved out more work for themselves by creating their first ever range for children.
Designed with a ‘profoundly Italian DNA’ the autumn/winter 2012 collection will see Baroque-inspired clothes for little girls aged from 3 to 10 years old feature all the elements of the mainline Dolce & Gabbana collection — lace, crochet, tweed, polka dots and the brand’s distinctive animalier print.

The Men’s Collections, Day 2
June 17, 2012 12:00 pm
After a more leisurely opening day, London ramped up the action considerably for Day 2 of its nascent London Collections: Men. Sibling’s first runway show had bodies in the seats at the unfriendly hour of 9 a.m., a requirement that proved worth it when their gold-flecked riot gear took the stage. E. Tautz’s Patrick Grant required a firm commitment from his guests, too, with a Wapping show space — his new studio#8212;farther afield than most. Once showgoers did secure cabs and made the journey out east, their perseverance was rewarded with a show about, appropriately enough, an explorer in foreign lands.

Letter From London:
The Men’s Collections, Day 3
June 18, 2012 6:20 pm
London’s final day of shows featured outings from J.W. Anderson, Margaret Howell, Pringle of Scotland, and Christopher Raeburn. It also offered a moment to check out the installations from Fashion East, Lulu Kennedy’s young-gun incubator of emerging talent. Tim Blanks took a tour.
Ben Kirchhoff went back to his London roots with Meadham Kirchhoff’s first collection for men (pictured), not only because he started out with menswear in his pre-Meadham days at Saint Martins but also because, when he first arrived in London, he lived in a squat in the general neighborhood of the imposing Georgian mansion where the duo showed their new work. So that glorious vista of green trees and blue sky (yes, the sun shone for a moment) had once been his. And so had the pell-mell, headily fragranced tumble of clothes, boys, flowers, and skip-surfed remnants with which MK filled the eighteenth-century salons. They’re now a fully fledged cult. The cultists were scarcely disappointed, but anyone else who’s been wondering what might be in the pipeline after the suited, booted sartorial conservatism that many of the fashion boys have been working over the past three days might also catch a glimpse of a possible future in MK’s extravagant wrack of the West.

Jil Sander Speaks About Returning To Her Eponymous Label
For months now speculation has been mounting in fashion circles over exactly what Jil Sander’s first comeback collection for her eponymous label would look like. Eight years ago – after leaving the label twice before – the fashion pack thought the German designer had walked out for the very last time. But in a surprise turn earlier this year, Jil returned! She’s now settled firmly back into the driving seat of the brand she started in 1968 and is about to (and most probably with the upmost subtlety) present the first new line – men’s wear spring/summer’13 in Milan. Behind her exits Raf Simons, whose take on Jil’s signature minimalism – which led the way for intelligently-dressed super-sharp women in the late eighties and early ninties — had a slightly more feminine and frivolous touch; one that became as popular with fashion editors as it did with celebrities like Tilda Swinton and Diane Kruger.

The Surprising Mr. Smith, and Other Party Notes
By ERIC WILSON
One of the obvious names missing from the men’s catwalking calendar in London this weekend is Paul Smith, one of the most recognizable names in British fashion for more than 40 years. The reason he is not showing his collection here, however, is simple. Since 1977, he has presented his men’s wear in Paris, where he has a showroom with hundreds of employees, so it was too big a job to move it all back to London.
While Mr. Smith said he would take a wait-and-see approach to London’s effort to create a new men’s wear showcase, he did have a presence in the inaugural London Collections: Men by participating in a Q&A on Friday with Suzy Menkes, the fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune.

Traditional Tailoring Meets the Younger Pack
By ERIC WILSON
After the E. Tautz show, in a wharf building on the east side of London, I stopped with Jonathan Player, who is shooting the men’s collections for The Times this weekend, for a coffee at an Italian place nearby. The clearly fashionable couple at the next table struck up a conversation, and, as it turned out, they were Alex and Zofia Torun-Shaw, the founders of Laird & Co., a young company making gentlemen’s hats here in London’s grand millinery tradition.

In London, the Ones That Stand Out
By ERIC WILSON
One peculiar thing about the London men’s collections taking place this weekend is that the coolest young designers, or at least the ones with the most buzz here, tend to show in what would seem to be the worst time slots. Jonathan Anderson, whose label J. W. Anderson has been on the hot list for men’s and women’s wear in recent seasons, showed at 9 a.m. on Sunday, on the last day of the men’s shows.

London Shows Open With Up-and-Comers
By ERIC WILSON
On the first day of the inaugural edition of London Collections: Men, as this city got used to the idea of having its very own Fashion Week for men, the look for spring 2013 was black dress socks worn with shorts. Both Lou Dalton, an up-and-comer, and the designers at Topman, the premium men’s division of Topshop, styled their models in black socks, which did not exactly suggest the sort of directionality for which London designers are supposedly known. That middle-aged look for lawn-mowing has been all over Brooklyn already.

Sherlock star on the catwalk as first British menswear fashion week begins
Britishness, Big Ben and Benedict Cumberbatch play their parts as new London event makes debut
Simon Chilvers
guardian.co.uk, Friday 15 June 2012 20.23 BST
A pack of models suited, booted, carrying umbrellas and sporting bowler hats. Skateboards, neoprene shorts and arty prints. Ronnie Wood sitting in the front row front row. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch taking to the catwalk clutching a cigar and a glass of whisky. Day one of the first British menswear fashion week got off to a strong start on Friday.
Cumberbatch, best known for playing Sherlock in the BBC’s hit drama, was turning out for the British luxury tailor Spencer Hart, known for dressing some of the world’s best known actors and musicians, including Robbie Williams and Jay-Z.

Prince Charles launches men’s fashion week
Fri Jun 15 2012 13:47
The Prince of Wales hosted a reception at St James’s Palace to launch ‘London Collections: Men’, the first men’s fashion week featuring Spring 2013 collections.
Organisers wanted a global audience for the three-day event and hoped that the high-profile royal endorsement would help.
Prince Charles has been a champion of British fashion brands and said: “The great thing has been meeting so many people from overseas who’ve been drawn here by the reputation of the British tailoring and craftmanship and design.”
American designer Tommy Hilfiger was also full of praise for all things British: “We all look up to the British tailors, especially on Savile Row because they make the best product in the world.”

Fashion Statement: here come the boys
The first London men’s fashion week is here, which is a good excuse to celebrate Prince Charles’ style moments. Plus, high art meets fashion at the Louvre
Why is London the best place for menswear?
This week sees the birth of a brand new fashion week, the first ever dedicated menswear event in London. It’s only right that the UK’s capital should get its own event — if you believe the likes of Nicole Farhi, Jonathan Saunders, Omar K and pretty much every other designer showing at London Collections: Men, London offers a unique mix of tailoring heritage, new talent and cultural diversity. To celebrate the event, we asked those designers participating in London Collections: Men to give us one image which summed up their spring/summer 2013 collection, and tell us what inspired them. See and read their responses here and here.
