What the Heck Are They Showing on the Television?

What kind of television are we showing the masses? Are we raising awareness or doing its direct opposite – giving men the license to behave like that on national TV? You decide.

I personally do not subscribe to showing such graphic scenes (that involve hitting women) on national TV even if they are a work of fiction. You are just endorsing bad behavior. Please do not tell such stories. Find better subjects where women are respected and empowered. Not diminished and suppressed. I think the policy makers need to take notice.

Please do raise your voice if you agree with me.

Coke Studio: Season 7 – Effortless, Professional and Slick

Bottom line, Season 7, episode one by Strings is an effortless, professional production that is indeed “Sound of the Nation” reinterpreting the traditional musical instruments of Sitar, Dholak, Flute – bringing together surprise collaborations from guest stars and the house band. I have no faults to find, though, the presentation is pretty low-key because it borrows from our musical roots and traditions, therefore, hardly contains any elements of surprise– very smooth job indeed.

The Tomorrow People – the ‘Us and Them’ Syndrome

Bigotry exists.

It’s a fact. There’s no getting away from it. We discriminate, we judge, we evaluate, daily on the basis of ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ which is quite a subjective quality if you think about it – we might not even notice we are doing it. It’s human nature.

Coke Studio: Season 6 – Same Old, Same Old, Blah, Blah…

coke studio 2

Not that I want to rain on his parade but I think Coke Studio needs fresh new blood.

Its same old, same old; it started with the single “Jogi” and it went downhill fast from there

Things have Changed

People are crazy and times are strange
I’m locked in tight, I’m out of range
I used to care, but things have changed

Some shows might have ended but will be long-remembered for their clothes choices as well – Friends, Gossip Girl and Sex and the city for example…

Playing Ostrich

In my dream I was drowning my sorrows
But my sorrows, they learned to swim
Surrounding me, going down on me
Spilling over the brim
Waves of regret and waves of joy
I reached out for the one I tried to destroy
You…you said you’d wait
’til the end of the world

Procrastination and Writer’s block – My Typical Day

flat screen tv

I am suffering from over work. Yes, I think it’s a disease too. You develop a tunnel vision. You become compulsive and obsessive (about your current obsession). Which I am anyway – compulsively obsessive…when you add work to the mix, it becomes something totally beyond normal. All work and no play makes you a dull Jill (or Jack whatever your particular case).

Doom and Gloom Galore

Citizens should be allowed to let off steam in peaceful healthy ways. There is a lot of hidden anger that comes out when people are protesting on the roads, on television and in the news, but especially when they are protesting against power outages.

Coke Studio – Season 5 Kicks off May 13th with a bang!

atif aslam

Coke Studio has finally arrived as a team (Orchestra). Technically it was a great episode – no jarring notes at all in the music collaborations – the house band, the backup vocalists and of course, Rohail Hayat all provided great musical support and back up to the vocalists – it’s now up to them (vocalists) to shine and come up with great new material.

Carl Orff – Carmina Burana – O fortuna played by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (with lyrics)

Fate, in health and in virtue, is against me driven on and weighted down, always enslaved.
So at this hour without delay pluck the vibrating string; since Fate strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me!
