Proud to be a Muslim – No apologies. No excuses.

The world is divided into two: us and them, the first world and the third world, the black and the white, the rich and the poor, the educated and the illiterate, the privileged and the disadvantaged, the favored and the damned, the aristocrats and the peasants, the natives and the immigrants, on and on it goes…like an infinite loop spiral.

Year in Review: 2016

December is the month we take stock and build on the successes and failures of the past. We also create new resolutions. Well, I don’t have any new resolutions. I have only old.

Stuck in the Twilight Zone!

change faster

And yes, I have now great respect for people in the government who manage to get anything done – push the paper all the way through to build roads, schools, hospitals — the works. It takes hundreds of engineers to change a single light bulb in this joint. People who can do all that are my heroes. I salute you. You must be relentless, tireless and have a lot of tolerance for putting up with loads of BS and still plowing through all that nonsense to come on the other side.

Trend Report: Autumn-Winter 2015

Androgynous style, gender blur, unisex – in fact, no demarcation between feminine and masculine clothes. “On the street these days, you can’t always tell who’s a guy and who’s a girl,” Ed Burstell, the managing director of Liberty of London was reported as saying by New York Times and “Sexuality is inside. It’s a private thing,” as Alessandro Michele said for Gucci.

Coke Studio: Season 7 – Effortless, Professional and Slick

coke studio - episode 1

Bottom line, Season 7, episode one by Strings is an effortless, professional production that is indeed “Sound of the Nation” reinterpreting the traditional musical instruments of Sitar, Dholak, Flute – bringing together surprise collaborations from guest stars and the house band. I have no faults to find, though, the presentation is pretty low-key because it borrows from our musical roots and traditions, therefore, hardly contains any elements of surprise– very smooth job indeed.

The Empire Strikes Back

Imran Khan and Qadri are not the answer. They are only human and fallible and subject to the same human frailties as the rest of us including stupidity and arrogance. When the dust settles, history will record that they were only rabble rousers.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly — Relationships

comic 3

…There are so many unhappy, negative people around, especially in Pakistan – our whole culture revolves around criticizing someone, complaining about someone, ganging up and bullying someone, picking on someone who is different, bitching, complaining, moaning, groaning, whining, carping, we spend all our lives just talking negative – in our homes, schools, workplaces, television programs, newspapers…

Green Roofs and Indoor Gardens

However in spite of all these frustrations, I am hooked. Gardening is a very rewarding hobby. You can literally see the fruits of your labor right in front of your eyes! ;D

Double Standards

The contrast between the ordinary and special is blinding –only in Pakistan. Why can’t all our roads be as green and picturesque as these two???

Denim: Another Fashion Note from the Trenches

Cuts are about people’s shapes anyway. ‘One cut fits’ all can never be an enduring formula. Brands and retailers that cater to different shapes, cuts, washes and maximum range of sizes endure. The rest get left behind.
